Tectonicus: On the Edge of War
Discover everything you need to know about Tectonicus, our latest game that immerses you in intense warfare and tactical mastery.
What is Tectonicus ?
Tectonicus is the game where great stories of the past come to light, while you get to uncover – and interpret – what happened. Live through the clashes of civilizations that shape the world, and write history as you play.
Tectonicus synthesizes mechanics of turn-based strategies, auto-battlers and card games. To succeed, you are to use strategic thinking when placing heroes, commanders and units on the board, as well as building synergic decks that emphasize each faction’s unique strengths. The forces of history come into play through History cards, affecting the units on the battlefield depending on their historical accuracy. The approach is for you to choose: destroy anachronisms or buff legendary heroes, weaken historical misconceptions or re-interpret controversial units in your favor!
How the Match Begins
In Tectonicus, matches start with players drawing four cards. You can choose to keep these cards or mulligan (redraw) some of them, setting up your strategy for the game. Battles unfold in an exciting card-based format.

As you play, you’ll dive into a mix of history, mythology, and religion. You’ll meet important historical figures and mythical creatures, each with their own stories and abilities. We aim to be different from typical games by giving you a fresh and accurate experience that inspires you to know more about history. While we focus on being true to history, we also leave room for fantasy to spark your imagination. Jump into Tectonicus and explore a game where history and fantasy come together for an unforgettable adventure.

Move Your Turn with Priority Coin
Turn-based games, including card games, often give an edge to the player who goes first. To fix this, we designed the Priority Coin. This coin switches sides after each round, ensuring the first move advantage only lasts for one round. The Priority Coin decides whose cards go first and whose units move. This adds an extra layer of strategy to the game.

In the image on the left, the Priority Coin is on the player’s side, meaning they have priority for the next combat round. This makes the game fairer and more balanced for everyone.
The Action Points
During the battle, you can draw cards based on action points. Each round, you have 5 Action Points (AP) to use for drawing and playing cards. When you think you're ready for the combat round, you can end your turn. This system allows you to plan your moves carefully, making each decision count. With the right strategy, you can maximize your actions and gain the upper hand in the battle. Here's how you can spend them:
Discover the Legends
The cards in Tectonicus add more than just gameplay—they provide rich historical insights. When you inspect a card, whether it's in your hand or on the battlefield, you'll unlock the card's historical description.
For example, when you examine the Commander card of the Jarl, you'll know that Jarls managed land for the king, handling taxes, justice, and laws. They were top-tier society members, just below the king. The Norse word "Jarl" became the English "Earl," a noble rank still used in Great Britain today. Unlike Earls, who were chosen by the king, the title of Jarl was sometimes inherited, especially in the Orkney Islands in Scotland.
By exploring these historical descriptions, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the characters and events that shaped history. This feature not only enriches your gameplay experience but also inspires you to know more about the past.
